This is the earliest recorded drawing found in Lack’s studio portfolios. Lack was very fond of his pet dog and used him as a model in many early drawings, however, this is the only that he kept. Lack was 14 or 15 at the time he executed this drawing. Not only is it a very good rendering with accurate proportions and sophisticated use of a pen, he also captures the quirky personality reflected in her expression and how she’s sitting. An exceptional drawing rendered with a great degree of technical skill at his age, it presents us with Lack’s inherent artistry and talent and hints at the career that awaits him.
